Welcome to the 18th annual Library garden tour! Just a little more information may help you understand some important facts about our tour. Every year we get the same feed back... "put the gardens closer together" and "have fewer so visitors can see them all".
Well what these suggestions ignore is the garden search formula we have refined that makes our tour able to sustain itself. We are 18 years old and our formula works! We require :

1. no parking issues
2. over 600 tickets sold
3. no overcrowding in the gardens
4. no frantic garden hosts overburdened with too many visitors at one time.
5. and enough variety to permit visitors to chose styles that interest them and still have enough time to have a leisurely day.

Our first problem is that many first time visitors feel they need to see all the gardens to get good value. Those who have been on the tour before soon adapt and do the fewer gardens recommended and turn it into a divine day out. There are enough details supplied that experienced visitors read and plan their day in advance so that they have enough time to linger and appreciate the garden stories of each host. Our search goal is a route that is long enough with a good broad coverage of styles. We want to showcase a wide variety of budgets, garden ages, locations, conditions etc. Our search list criteria permit us to showcase the very different approaches very different people have to creating special spaces. It is not a competition and it is not a race... In fact it is a privilege to be invited into these magic spaces. We certainly appreciate the sixteen gardening hosts who so graciously opened their properties to us this year. Here is a taste of what lies in store. Bring your camera and notebook. This is a tour for finding great ideas.
